DENNIS QUAID’S THE HILL TAKES NO. 1 SPOT ON NETFLIX

Dennis Quaid and Colin Ford’s THE HILL just scored the No. 1 spot on Netflix.

“THE HILL tells the unbelievably true story of baseball player Rickey Hill, who stops at nothing to pursue his dreams of playing professionally one day despite his degenerative spinal condition. But his passion divides the family after his overprotective father forbids him from pursuing the sport,” Decider reported.

The movie sits ahead of THE LEGEND OF TARZAN and QUEENPINS.

Based on a true story, Hill grew up in poverty in Fort Worth, Texas. He aspired to be a baseball star, but that dream seemed impossible due to his spinal condition.

At the age of 18, he attended a three-day baseball camp with 700 other players and came out as the best hitter.

“Rickey Hill never made it to the majors, [but] the athlete played for four minor league baseball teams before retiring at 22,” Forbes reported.

Ford stars as Rickey Hill, while Quaid plays his father, Pastor Hill.

“I think the draw for me was the true story aspect,” Ford told Movieguide®. “Just having been a baseball fan in my youth, the baseball element was very cool. But I think more than that was, after discovering who Ricky was and the adversity that he faced and all the things that he struggled with, it was just a no-brainer for me.”

THE HILL earned a -1 content rating from Movieguide®. Part of the review reads:

“THE HILL is an inspiring, uplifting, and biblical movie about the miracle God works on Rickey Hill. It champions faith, and never quitting despite our circumstances. It also shows a compelling, authentic family dynamic between Rickey and the rest of his family. Through forgiveness and humility, the Hill family learns to love one another and trust God’s plan above their own.”

“I think that’s in scripture,” Ford said, quoting 2 Corinthians 12:9: “God makes us strong through our weaknesses, and I think that that’s exactly what God did through Rickey. I think his self-belief only propelled him forward even more and then later the support system that he received from his family, his brothers, sisters, grandmother and mom are just the catalyst that he needs in order to go off and shoot for the stars.”

“Having a film like THE HILL which has a really cool strong message [of faith]… I think it’s a joy for me to get to share,” he concluded.
